These are from the first infrared photography session I ever did. The camera is a full spectrum modified Canon T5i. I used a 720nm filter. I could not see through the viewfinder, not surprising since it is infrared, but the autofocus worked. After several test shots I settled on ISO 800 and 1/500 second exposure. Then guessed where I was aiming. I can see this being fun. In the not too distant future I will get filters for ultraviolet. From what I can tell, you can spend hundreds of dollars on a UV pass filter or $40 on one that lets some IR through too and an IR cut filter. I’ll try the latter first.
6/6/2021 Fun with Photoshop
What do you do on a rainy Sunday afternoon when you finished the chores that you agreed to do? Try to improve your Photoshop skills of course. I’m no blackbelt when it comes to Photoshop. I do some curves and levels and vibrance and sharpening and call it good. Today in the overcast low light afternoon I noticed that the coneflower was looking pretty so I took a shot of it with my phone to see what I could do with it. The first image is the original after cropping. In the second image, I enhanced the petals and the cones, separately, then desaturated the background. Then I looked in the default PS filters and clicked one after the other until I found “watercolor” and I really liked that one.
10/17/2020 Fall Foliage
Angie and I took Arkansas 7 up to Harrison for fall foliage today. Despite a forecast saying that this is the peak, today was too early. That said we did see some color and here at Maplewood Cemetery I got a few shots. There were already plenty of leaves on the ground so there might be a short period between peak foliage and bare trees.
