This morning, Sam, Jack, and I traveled to the country club in Dewitt, Arkansas to see this little flycatcher. The Vermillion Flycatcher is an occasional visitor to Arkansas. Twice now, Sam and I have seen one in this general area, the other time being near the Stuttgart airport.
Black-chinned Hummingbird
Lenore Gifford has this Black-chinned visitor this week. She appears to be a female Black-chinned Hummingbird. The picture doesn’t show the best diagnostic, the tail and wings, but the bill is obviously long and curved. Even though I got no picture of them the tail extended just barely past the wings, if the bird were a Ruby-throat the tail would have extended further.
Early November Birding
It’s been a while since I posted but I got a life bird yesterday so I figured it was about time. That bird was a Ferruginous Hawk, actually 2, near the end of the divided portion of US 67 north of Newport. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures of that one but I did take Sam, Angie, and Jack to see Sandhill Cranes at BKNWR today and got some pictures of those. The SACR were life birds for all of them and a year bird for me. Speaking of year birds, I got my FOY Red-breasted Nuthatch this morning as well.
