3/27/2022 My First UV Photograph

Today I took my first UV image with my full spectrum modified Canon T5i. The first picture below is a dandelion from my yard with my cell phone. The next is the same flower in UV, maybe a “bee’s eye view”. Both images had minimal processing. The final picture includes a little more processing to make the flower pop. It’s true what they say about flowers that may be featureless in visible light have features in UV. Good UV filters are not cheap, I believe $300-$400 is not uncommon. I got around this by buying an cheap filter that lets only UV and some IR through and then added an IR block filter for a total of about $40. While the filters were on the way, I learned that most modern camera lenses have a UV blocking coating. Well, shoot, I thought only I didn’t say shoot. Then I found that one of my lenses, a Yongnou 50mm prime lens, was one of the exceptions so Woo Hoo!
