I wanted to get out of the house and shoot fog this morning. Fortunately, there was some fog after all the rain over the last couple days though not as much as I hoped for. I chose Rattlesnake Ridge for its nice views of Lake Maumelle, Pinnacle Mountain, and the unnamed valley to the south of Lake Maumelle.
2/5/2023 The Buffalo National River
A few months ago I learned that there was a “horseshoe bend” in the Buffalo and I’ve been planning to go shoot it sometime. Today was the day. Ms. GPS took me right there though it was a series of increasingly sketchy roads toward the end. At the end there is a definitely non-official trail, more of a beaten path, to the edge of an overlook. I took two pictures, one with and one without a photogenic tree. I can’t decide which I like better so I include both. It’s a two hour drive but I want to return under different conditions. On the way home, I stopped at the Tyler Bend Campground and shot the cliffs over the river.
2/4/2023 Haw Creek and Pam’s Grotto
This morning I went to Haw Creek Recreation Area near Hagarville in the Ozark National Forest. There I visited two waterfalls. First off, I hiked mostly uphill and sometimes off-trail due to tree falls to Pam’s Grotto and her waterfall. This was a cool place though my artificial knee was very concerned about the trail. Then I stopped by the actual recreation area to shoot the Haw Creek Falls. There is a third falls, the Pack Rat Falls, nearby but I didn’t have time for a trifecta today.
