Camp Robinson SUA, Lake Conway, and Bell Slough 4/4/2009

I joined ASCA for a field trip to these areas today. Before joining the group I made a swing by the lake bridge where the Brown Pelican had recently been seen but did not see him. The field trip had a good turnout and between us and the fishers, the commuter parking lot was overflowing. First we went to Camp Robinson Special Use Area for Bachman’s Sparrow and warblers, then Lake Conway and Bell Slough for more warblers. We did get some rarities including the Bachman’s and an Osprey. The water level was very high and much of the slough was flooded so we were not able to go as far as we might have otherwise. Of course, there is some overlap between Lake Conway and Bell Slough but I tried to keep them separate and treat them as separate lists. For example, we saw different Bald Eagles at the two locations.
